Due to declining sales, Victoria's Secret will close over 50 stores

It's official: Victoria's parent company Secret, L Brands, Inc., announced it would close 53 of its 1,143 Secret and PINK stores in Victoria, which is less than five percent of its North American locations. A list of stores that have been affected has not yet been released. The company based in Ohio has several brands, including Victoria's Secret, PINK and Bath & Body Works.

Some say that the brand is just behind the times. Razek suggested in a Vogue interview late last year that people are not interested in seeing models of plus-size on the Secret runway of the Victoria. "We tried to make a special television for plus sizes (in 2000). Nobody was interested in it, don't yet, "he said. He also said transgender women should not be cast in shows in his opinion. (Since then, he has apologized for that comment on Twitter and clarified that he would be well off casting transgender models.) Nevertheless, the comments have provoked long-term controversy.

L Brands, Inc., which closed Henri Bendel's luxury department store in January, reported on Wednesday that in the fourth quarter of 2018, Victoria's Secret stores in the U.S. and Canada saw a 7% decline in store sales. During the same period in 2017, the continued dip follows a six percent decline. What's next for the Secret of Victoria? Tammy Roberts Myers, a vice president, and Victoria's Secret spokesman explained to TODAY Style in an emailed statement. "Our new CEOs in Victoria's Secret Lingerie and PINK are most focused on our product ranges, where we believe there are clear opportunities for improvement. In lingerie, PINK and beauty, including a limited, curated, digital-only swim assortment in March, we have new product launches throughout the spring, and we will continue to leverage the speed we have to test, read and react in our supply chain, "Myers said.

The Victoria's Secret franchise operates in an estimated 80 countries around the world, although L Brands owns and operates Victoria's Secret only directly in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and China. Closures to Victoria's Secret store are just the latest dismal retail news this year as other struggling brands, including Payless ShoeSource, Charlotte Russe, and Gymboree, scale their operations back.
